TWO KILLED, ONE INJURED IN HEAD-ON CRASH NEAR CALDWELL

  

Two people were killed and one person was critically injured after a two-car collision Friday evening on Highway 36 near Caldwell.

The crash occurred shortly before 6:30 p.m., about a mile south of Caldwell.

According to DPS, a 2016 Ford driven by 29-year-old Michael Piper of Houston was traveling northbound when it began passing vehicles in the southbound lane.  It then collided head-on with a southbound 2013 Hyundai driven by 29-year-old Roykeisha Burnette of Austin.

Piper and Burnette were pronounced dead at the scene.  Burnette’s passenger, 27-year-old Anthony Smith of Killeen, was ejected from the vehicle and taken to St. Joseph Health Regional Hospital in Bryan.  As of Saturday, Smith remained in critical condition.

DPS says investigation of the crash is ongoing.

  1. Impatience in traffic is not worth losing your life and possibly causing someone else to lose their life. God be with the families!!
