AREA UNEMPLOYMENT RATES UP TO BEGIN 2022

  

The unemployment rate in Washington County is up to start 2022.

Data from the Texas Workforce Commission shows the county’s unemployment rate for January rose to 4.6 percent from a rate of 4 percent in December.

The number of unemployed residents in the county grew from 590 in December to 676 in January.

A total of 14,107 people were employed out of a civilian labor force of 14,783 in January.  In December, the county reported total employment numbers of 14,185 and a civilian labor force of 14,775.

In comparison to a year ago, the county’s unemployment rate was 6.6 percent, with 1,021 people jobless.

Statewide, the unemployment rate for January was 4.8 percent, unchanged from a revised rate of 4.8 percent in December.

The jobless rate also rose in area counties:

  • Austin County – 4.7 percent, up from 4.1 percent in December.
  • Brazos County – 3.6 percent, up from 3.1 percent.
  • Burleson County – 4.3 percent, up from 3.8 percent.
  • Fayette County – 3.8 percent, up from 3.6 percent in December.
  • Grimes County – 6 percent, up from 5.5 percent.
  • Lee County – 3.8 percent, up from 3.6 percent.
  • Waller County – 5.3 percent, up from 4.8 percent.
