BRENHAM HERITAGE MUSEUM REVEALS DESIGN FOR PERMANENT MAIFEST EXHIBIT
The Brenham Heritage Museum continues to reveal the design team’s renderings for the first permanent exhibits that will be part of this summer’s Phase 1 opening of the historic Post Office Building.
The latest round of images released pertains to Maifest. The display will showcase the museum’s extensive Maifest artifact collection and offer several ways to connect visitors to the history of the beloved festival.
A key aspect of the Maifest kiosk is that it will change more often than other permanent exhibits. The specially constructed vitrines will allow museum staff to swap out artifacts every few months so visitors can see a variety of crowns, mantles, scepters and trains. While some trains are heavy and measure 15 or more feet in length, a special vitrine and pulley system will allow them to be displayed safely.
Brenham Heritage Museum Director Mike Vance said Maifest “is incredibly important to lots of people in Brenham, and so many families can trace their ancestors through Maifest royalty.” He said the museum wants to showcase as many royal artifacts as it can in a way that is safe for them.
A digital option on the kiosk will allow museum goers to look up any given Maifest year and see a list of royalty and photographs from that year, if they exist in the museum collection.
Phase 1 exhibits will primarily be located on the building’s main floor, though some artifacts will be in place in the basement. Exhibit elements for future phases will follow.
The museum will release more artwork and descriptions of initial exhibits over coming weeks.
An opportunity to be permanently recognized for underwriting the Maifest exhibit kiosk is still available. To learn more, or to contribute to the museum’s capital campaign, visit www.brenhamheritagemuseum.org.
