A longtime member of the Blinn College Board of Trustees, and a Blinn Hall of Honor inductee, has died.

Norwood Lange died Sunday at the age of 89.

Lange served on the Board of Trustees for 24 years, from 1990 until 2014.  He was inducted into Blinn’s Hall of Honor in 2007.

A Washington County native and 1951 graduate of Brenham High School, Lange attended Blinn from 1951-52.  He lettered in basketball and baseball before transferring to Sam Houston State University.  He returned to Brenham in 1980 after serving in the U.S. Army and working in Beaumont.

During Lange’s time on the board, the college’s enrollment increased from 6,930 students in 1990 to 18,413 in 2014.  The College also opened campuses in Bryan, Sealy and Schulenburg and built numerous facilities, including the Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center, the W.J. “Bill” Rankin Agricultural Complex, the Brenham Campus Administration Building, the J. Hal and Allyne Machat Music Facility, and the Bert and Mae Dean Wheeler Residence Hall.

Blinn Chancellor Dr. Mary Hensley said, “Trustee Lange’s deep affection for Blinn College and his student-focused leadership leave a lasting legacy that will forever be part of our College and community.”

A memorial service for Norwood will be held with Brenham Memorial Chapel at a later date.
