NAVASOTA POLICE DEPARTMENT TO BEGIN SEARCH FOR NEW CHIEF AS CURRENT CHIEF SEEKS OTHER EMPLOYMENT

MYATT TO REMAIN WITH CITY AS ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER UNTIL DEPARTURE

Navasota Police Chief Shawn Myatt has been reassigned within the City of Navasota as he seeks employment elsewhere.

According to a press release issued by the city on Friday, Myatt informed City Manager Jason Weeks last month that he is looking for a new job.

Myatt, who has been serving in dual capacity as Assistant City Manager and Police Chief, will transition from his position as chief into a full-time Assistant City Manager until his departure.

On Monday, Navasota Police Lieutenant Michael Mize will be sworn in as Interim Police Chief.

The city said it will perform a nationwide search for the position, which will be posted soon.  The hiring process will include interviews with panels comprised of city leaders and department heads, members of the Navasota Police Department, residents, business owners and neighboring law enforcement agency chiefs.

The city said it is grateful for Myatt’s years of service as police chief, and welcomes Mize to his new role during this transition period.
