BLINN GOLF FINISHES SEVENTH AT SOUTHWEST CHAMPIONSHIP

Blinn finishes seventh at Southwest Championship

Cameron Gray paces Buccaneers with 18th-place finish in 55-player tournament

The 14th-ranked Blinn College men’s golf team competed at the Southwest Championship at the Squaw Creek Golf Course in Willow Park, Texas, where the Buccaneers finished seventh out of nine teams.
Blinn fired a 42-over-par during the three-day tournament, which ended Thursday.
Midland Community College – ranked No. 1 nationally – finished 1-under to win the tournament title.
Leading the Buccaneers was Cameron Gray, who was 8-over par and finished in a three-way tie for 18th place. Cameron Hubbard also finished in the top 25, tying for 22nd overall at 10-over.
A total of 55 golfers competed.

"We played solid in both rounds on Monday,” Blinn head coach David Johnson said. “We could not get many birdie putts to fall, and it was tough to watch so many balls just slide by the hole or just short. Our speed was really good, and the guys handled it well and never lost focus and moved on to the next shot.
“We slipped a little in Thursday’s round and lost a place in the standings. We didn't play badly, but with five teams ranked in the top 11 in the country in front of you, it doesn't take much to lose a stroke or two. We have talked all year about how every shot counts, and that came into play this week.”
Blinn returns to play at the South-Central District tournament (Region V and Region XIV) beginning Monday, May 9, at the Hideout Golf Club in Brownwood, Texas.
“We will need to make a move in Brownwood in a couple of weeks to qualify for nationals,” Johnson added. “I am confident the guys will prepare and be up to the challenge."
