EARLY VOTING BEGINS MONDAY FOR PRIMARY RUNOFF ELECTION

  

One week of early voting for the primary runoff election for House District 12 begins Monday.

Voting for the Republican runoff between District 12 incumbent Kyle Kacal and challenger Ben Bius will be held from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Washington County Courthouse Annex.

In the March primary, Kacal led all three candidates with 46.9 percent of the vote, followed by Bius with 41.8 percent and Joshua Hamm with 11.2 percent.

Kacal was the top vote-getter in Brazos, Madison and Robertson counties, while Bius received the most votes in Grimes, Walker and Washington counties.  In Washington County, Bius tallied 2,730 votes to Kacal’s 2,155 and Hamm’s 544.

A total of 24,105 voters were registered for the March 1st primary in Washington County.  There were 6,710 ballots cast, including 5,890 Republican votes and 820 Democratic votes, for a voter turnout of 27.84 percent.

The winner of the District 12 runoff will not be opposed in the general election in November.

Outside of Washington County, there are also runoff races in House District 17 and House District 85.

For District 17, candidates Stan Gerdes and Paul Pape will square off for the Republican nomination against Democrat Madeline Eden in November’s general election.  Meanwhile, District 85 incumbent Phil Stephenson will face challenger Stan Kitzman to appear on the Republican ticket in November against Democrat Larry Baggett.

The primary runoff election is May 24th.
