WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO CONSIDER TAX PHASE-IN AGREEMENT WITH DOUBLE R BRAND FOODS
Washington County Commissioners will vote on Tuesday whether to provide tax abatement to a meat production company outside of Burton.
Commissioners will consider an agreement for development and tax phase-in between the county and Double R Brand Foods, LLC, doing business as Burton Sausage. The company seeks to invest in equipment and renovation at the plant at 11700 Highway 290 West in order to restart production.
Per the agreement, the tax phase-in incentives are contingent on Double R Brand Foods making at least $2 million in real and personal property improvements. The company must also create or maintain a minimum of 10 jobs at an average salary of $36,000 or higher. It will receive property tax incentive each year of the agreement based on its combination of property value creation and job creation and retention.
During the court’s last discussion of the topic at its meeting May 10th, Brenham | Washington County Economic Development Director Susan Cates said the company aims to initially have 25 employees, with plans to grow to 40 employees and expand upon the over-18-acre property.
Also at Tuesday’s meeting, commissioners will act upon Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) grant funding requests for the fall of 2022. The court will review a total of $63,850 in HOT fund requests from the Brenham Heritage Museum, Texas Cotton Gin Museum, Unity Theatre, Washington-on-the-Brazos, Chappell Hill Chamber of Commerce, Texas Arts and Music Festival, and Chappell Hill Historical Society.
In other action, the court will:
- Consider an agreement with PM AM Corporation for alarm program administration services, as well as a resolution and order to adopt the Washington County rules governing alarms.
- Hold a workshop to discuss county Blue Cross Blue Shield health coverage rate increases.
- Consider a formal notice from Industry Telephone Company for utility installations on Koether Road and Sandtown Road in Precinct 4. There will also be a formal notice from AT&T Texas for utility installations on Wonder Hill Road in Precinct 2.
- Consider a 90 day extension of 72.5 excess vacation hours for Clifton Bellard with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and a 90 day extension of 112.5 excess vacation hours for Derrick Washington with the sheriff’s office.
Commissioners will meet Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Washington County Courthouse.
