BODY OF ROUND TOP MAN FOUND IN LAKE SOMERVILLE; CAUSE OF DEATH BELIEVED TO BE DROWNING
A Round Top man has been identified as the victim of a possible drowning this weekend at Lake Somerville.
The body of 26-year-old Jim Ross Cole Jr. was discovered Monday morning in the lake, near Welch Park, after witnesses reported seeing a body floating approximately 20 yards off the shoreline and immediately called 911. A Welch Park worker entered the water and brought the victim to shore.
Preliminary autopsy results from the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office indicate the cause of death to be consistent with drowning. A final ruling on the cause of death is pending toxicology results.
At this time, there are no witnesses that saw the victim enter the water. It is estimated the man was in the water between 24-36 hours before being discovered. Investigators do not suspect foul play.
Responding agencies included the Burleson County Sheriff’s Office, Somerville Police Department, Texas Parks & Wildlife Department and Park Rangers.
Sad, yet another death at lake Somerville. Maybe they should outlaw Welch park because that’s where 90 percent happen at the lake. Close it permanently.
Right.
