ERCOT ASKING FOR ENERGY CONSERVATION MONDAY

CONSERVATION APPEAL ISSUED FOR HOURS OF 2-8 P.M.

Texas’ power grid operator is calling on residents to conserve energy amid a record-breaking heatwave.

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) is asking Texans and Texas businesses to voluntarily conserve electricity today (Monday) between 2 and 8 p.m.

ERCOT also issued a watch for a “projected reserve capacity shortage” from 2-8 p.m.  It does not expect any system-wide outages.

Customers are encouraged to reduce their electricity use during peak times by turning up their thermostat by a few degrees and not running major appliances until after peak hours.

ERCOT says record-high electric demand and low wind are both factoring into the call for energy conservation.  According to ERCOT, current projections show wind generation coming in less than 10 percent of its capacity.

The total forecasted demand for today is projected at 79,671 megawatts.

  1. More proof that wind and solar energy is unreliable. Leave it behind and build more power plants. Nuclear would be the obvious choice.

  2. I can understand, but, there was the same heat wave a few years back.
Is there a real plan to get more power for the state?
People are moving here in droves. That, along with all the talk of going “green”, from electronic cars to lawn mowers, is going to put a much larger strain on our power grid
Does anybody know if something is being started to prevent a failure in the future?
Is Bluebonnet or LCRA, or whom ever else that has the authority actually doing something about this upcoming problem?
    Spectator?
    Anyone?
    Please advise.

    1. Bluebonnet only buys power, they do not produce it.

I think its going to be a scramble for the power that is produced. It will be interesting to see what happens in a scarcity situation which seems inevitable.

You can produce and sell your own back to bluebonnet. If enough people did that its hard to envision rolling blackouts.
