WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS ACCEPT CONSTRUCTION BID FOR PECAN GLEN ROADS

County Engineer Wesley Stolz tells Washington County Commissioners on Tuesday that he was very pleased with the bids that were submitted for the Pecan Glen Road District rehabilitation project.

Road construction should begin soon in the Pecan Glen subdivision, after Washington County Commissioners today (Tuesday) accepted a bid for the Pecan Glen Road District rehabilitation project.

The top bid of the three that were submitted came from Schrader Construction Company for $741,915.  The contractor will be tasked with improving roads in the subdivision, using proceeds from no more than $950,000 in bonds approved by Pecan Glen voters in May 2021.

County Engineer Wesley Stolz said higher construction costs have been a burden on the county and on developers.  He said while some concessions had to be made, the bids received were more favorable than expected, and the county is “in really good shape, all things considered.”

Funding from the $950,000 bond issuance has been used to pay the bonding agency and cover fees for attorneys, engineering, laboratory services and surveying.  Commissioner Joy Fuchs said if there is any money left over at the end, there are other road improvements that can be made, but she and Stolz do not believe much will remain.

The first-year ad valorem tax rate on residents of the subdivision is $0.1500 per $100 valuation.  Only people who live within the road district’s boundaries will pay the added tax.

Stolz expects the company will mobilize and start construction in the next few weeks.

Also at today’s meeting, commissioners:

  • Appointed the tax assessor-collector chief appraiser to calculate the no-new-revenue tax rate and the voter-approval tax rate.
  • Agreed to purchase two used pickup trucks from LaRoche for the county’s maintenance department, for $10,900 and $10,000.
