UNEMPLOYMENT UP IN AREA FOR JUNE

  

Washington County’s unemployment rate jumped nearly a full percentage point in June.

According to data from the Texas Workforce Commission, the county reported an unemployment rate of 4.6 percent last month, compared to a rate of 3.7 percent in May.

The number of unemployed residents across the county grew from 550 in May to 692 in June.

There were 14,209 residents employed in June, compared to 14,300 in May.  The civilian labor force increased from 14,852 in May to 14,901 a month ago.

In June 2021, the county had an unemployment rate of 6.2 percent and 945 people out of work.

Statewide, the unemployment rate dropped from 4.2 percent in May to 4.1 percent in June.

Unemployment rates for area counties include:

  • Austin County – 4.3 percent, up from 3.8 percent in May.
  • Brazos County – 3.6 percent, up from 2.9 percent.
  • Burleson County – 3.9 percent, up from 3.4 percent.
  • Fayette County – 3.7 percent, up from 3.2 percent in May.
  • Grimes County – 5.6 percent, up from 4.7 percent.
  • Lee County – 3.7 percent, up from 3.1 percent.
  • Waller County – 5 percent, up from 4.2 percent.

  1. Smh……was there a rapture of the workforce? Where did they all go? I don’t get it. My wife and I both work and while we’re not living paycheck to paycheck, we’re not saving half of it every month either. How can you be unemployed and still make normal monthly obligations? If there are not government programs still accessible that I thought had ceased or you don’t have a “nest egg”, please explain.
