NAVASOTA POLICE: CAR THAT STRUCK DPS PATROL VEHICLE WAS STOLEN

(Brazos Co. Jail)
A Navasota man accused of striking a DPS patrol vehicle last week in Brazos County faces new charges after police say the vehicle he was driving was stolen.
The Navasota Police Department says it responded around 9 a.m. on July 20th to the 1100 block of Church Street for a report of a stolen vehicle. The victim stated that the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Edrick Peterson, had stolen her vehicle and fled the scene. Officers entered the vehicle as stolen and searched the area.
Around 10:15 a.m., police were notified of a vehicle crash on Highway 6 involving a DPS trooper. Officers arrived and confirmed the vehicle that struck the DPS trooper’s patrol unit was the stolen car, which Peterson was driving.
The DPS trooper was assisting a stranded driver on the shoulder of the road and was not inside the patrol vehicle when it was hit. However, a TxDOT employee was inside the vehicle and was treated at the scene.
Peterson was transported to Baylor Scott & White Hospital for injuries.
After initially being charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Peterson is now charged with Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle and a warrant from the Navasota Police Department for Theft of Property between $2,500 and $30,000. He remains in the Brazos County Jail.
