The Burleson County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a woman who is wanted for the abduction of her child.

A felony warrant has been issued for 31-year-old Chelsey Ellen Smith for Interference with Child Custody.

According to the sheriff’s office, a writ of attachment was issued by the 335th District Court ordering Smith to surrender her 2-year-old child to Family and Protective Services.

A Burleson County deputy, along with Family and Protective Services, visited a home where they attempted to make contact with Smith.  The sheriff’s office says Smith refused to turn over the child and retreated inside of the home, locking the door.

As the deputy spoke with another family member, Smith left the home through a back door with the child and fled the area.

The sheriff’s office says the current known circumstances of the case do not meet the state’s requirements to issue an Amber Alert.

A $500 cash reward is being offered for information leading to Smith’s arrest and the location of her child.

The sheriff’s office has not provided a description of Smith or the child.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 979-567-4343.
