BETO O’ROURKE STOPS IN BRENHAM ALONG CAMPAIGN TOUR

Beto O'Rourke speaks at a town hall meeting Friday at The Barnhill Center's Morriss Hall in Brenham. O'Rourke is traveling across the state during his campaign against Governor Greg Abbott.

Gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke visited Brenham on Friday along his campaign trail.

A crowd of nearly 400 people packed inside Morriss Hall at The Barnhill Center to hear from O’Rourke (D – El Paso), who is challenging Republican incumbent Greg Abbott in November to become the 49th governor of Texas.

O’Rourke said he was thrilled with the amount of people who came and the conversations he had with them.

Some of the topics addressed by O’Rourke included education and providing more compensation for educators, the state’s electric grid, abortion rights, cannabis legalization and the foster care system.  He also talked about the “Election Outrage” of 1886 that occurred in Washington County and the fight to obtain equal voting rights for all citizens.

After O’Rourke spoke, he took questions from the audience covering absentee voting, the cost of college education and criminal justice reform.

Much of the crowd inside the venue consisted of supporters of O’Rourke, and ranged from middle-aged teenagers to senior adults.  A small group of protestors, some holding rifles and flags reading “Come and Take It”, stood outside on the street corner.

Other stops for O’Rourke this weekend include Madisonville, Marlin, Waco and Waxahachie.

  1. “He also talked about the “Election Outrage” of 1886 that occurred in Washington County and the fight to obtain equal voting rights for all citizens.” Really…….did he mentioned that the Election Outrage of 1886 in Washington County was committed by the Democratic party of the day, that they stole ballot boxes from majority black districts at gun point, and that three black gentlemen were hanged for trying to defend the election system from having the election stolen by those Democrats of that time period (kinds sounds familiar now that I think about it). The history of the Democratic party is not exactly pure when it comes to racism and for Robert Francis O’Rouke to invoke that historical outrage is rich in irony. Just sayin!

  2. There would have been more supporters for him but unfortunately they had to work to keep the gears turning for the ones who (won’t) work.

  3. There would have been more protesters against him but unfortunately the majority has to work to keep the gears turning for the ones that dont work.

  4. What was the fee for the rental of this space? I need to know for a future political stop. Thank You!

  5. I was in the downtown area today. I saw the same group of protesters that are described in this article. But when I saw them, they were silent and still, some with head’s bowed, with an older gentleman leading a prayer.
