GRIMES COUNTY SENDS PAROLEE BACK TO PRISON FOR 40 YEARS
A parolee that led law enforcement on a chase from Grimes County to Walker County is going to be spending the next 40 years in prison.
On December 16, 2020, the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office responded to a disturbance in the Bedias area.
57-year-old Scott Hunter Colley fled the scene in a pickup truck, and was chased by Deputy Zackry Pavlock into Walker County. DPS Trooper Floyd Garner spiked the vehicle and disabled two tires on the truck.
Colley traveled six more miles before the truck finally stopped in a parking lot inside the Huntsville city limits. The Huntsville Police Department’s SWAT Team came to the scene and helped take him into custody without any injuries.
Colley had been out of prison under Parole Supervision. He was granted parole while he was supposed to be serving a life sentence imposed in 1989 out of Harris County for a charge of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child.
As part of a plea agreement, Colley was sentenced by 12th District Court Judge David Moorman to 40 years in prison for Evading Detention with a Vehicle.
The charge is a third-degree felony, but was enhanced due to Colley’s status as a habitual offender who has had multiple prior prison sentences.
He also has charges pending in Trinity County for aggravated sexual assault, aggravated kidnapping, tampering with evidence, possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
Grimes County District Attorney Andria Bender, who prosecuted the case, called Colley a rapist, and said that he had been in prison for the brutal sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl in Harris County. Bender added that he never should have been released on parole, and that with this sentence, she believes he will spend the rest of his life in prison.
