BRYAN MAN SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS FOR STRANGULATION

(Brazos Co. Jail)
A Bryan man was sentenced last week to 10 years in prison for Assault Family Violence by Strangulation.
25-year-old Joshua Wortham received the maximum sentence for the incident in April 2021, in which he was accused of striking and strangling a woman during an argument.
The offense occurred after Wortham was released on bond for Capital Murder in Harris County. He also had pending charges out of Colorado County for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and Evading in a Vehicle.
The Brazos County District Attorney’s Office said Bryan police responded to a home on April 27, 2021 after emergency dispatch received a 911 call from a woman crying and begging for help. According to the DA, Wortham took the phone away from her and told police they were not needed. He also refused to tell dispatchers their location and hung up the phone when questioned.
Authorities were able to locate the home, where they found the woman had injuries to her arms, legs and face. She told police that Wortham had attacked her during an argument about her wanting him to leave the house, hitting her multiple times and strangling her.
A check of Wortham’s criminal history led police to discover that he had an open warrant for failing to appear in court for a capital murder case out of Harris County. He was arrested in 2016 for the shooting and killing of a woman and the theft of her vehicle.
After Wortham’s arrest by Bryan police in 2021, he remained in Brazos County custody until his Harris County plea in June 2022, when he received 40 years in prison. His charges in Colorado County remain pending.
