UNITY THEATRE BEGINS A NEW SEASON WITH “CRIMES OF THE HEART”

Unity Theatre of Brenham is opening their new season with a performance of “Crimes of the Heart” by Beth Henley.

The play, which has written in 1979, tells the story of the three Magrath sisters that have gathered to await news of their grandfather who is living out his final hours in the local hospital.

Lenny, the oldest, is unmarried at 30 and facing diminishing prospects; Meg, the middle sister, outgrew small-town Hazelhurst and has returned after a failed singing career on the West Coast; while Babe, the youngest, is currently out on bail after having recently shot her husband.

“Crimes of the Heart” won a Pulitzer Prize and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award.  It was later made into a movie in 1986 starring Diane Keaton, Jessica Lange, and Sissy Spacek.

Performances run Thursdays thru Sundays for three weeks from September 22-October 9 on the Unity Theatre Main Stage.  Showtimes are Thursdays at 7:30pm, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, and new this year, Sunday matinees are at 2pm.
