TxDOT TRANSPORTATION PLAN CONTAINS FUNDING FOR LOCAL, REGIONAL ROAD IMPROVEMENTS

Billions of dollars in local and area road improvement projects are budgeted in the state’s newly adopted Unified Transportation Program (UTP).

TxDOT's improvement plan for the cloverleaf interchange would place new lanes for Highway 290 just south of the current interchange. This concept achieved the highest score on the TxDOT matrix.

The Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) 2023 UTP advances a record $85 billion, 10-year statewide roadway construction plan.  The UTP is a planning document that authorizes highway projects for development and construction, and also identifies public transportation, maritime, aviation and rail investments.

As part of the UTP, $2.2 billion will go to the TxDOT Bryan District, including $103.9 million for Washington County as part of the overhaul to the Highway 290-Highway 36 cloverleaf interchange.  Construction is expected to begin in 2026.

Other Bryan District projects include the widening of Highway 6 in Bryan-College Station from Highway 21 to Highway 40, a new interchange in College Station at George Bush Drive and Wellborn Road at the railroad, and widening I-45 in Walker County from Highway 30 to FM 1696.

Projects in other TxDOT districts include widening I-10 in Colorado County and Highway 77 in Fayette County, in the Yoakum District; and widening I-10 and installing new traffic management technology along Highway 290 and Highway 6 in Waller County, in the Houston District.

Governor Greg Abbott called the UTP “a critical step toward addressing the diverse needs of Texans in rural, urban, and metropolitan communities.”

More details on the UTP can be seen at www.txdot.gov.

  1. This serves nor aids any of the local population or business. If what is being tried to achieve is a faster evacuation route, then expand hwy 36. Do not destroy local business for a small inconvenience
