WASHINGTON CO. APPRAISAL DISTRICT BOARD TO DISCUSS RECEIPT OF NOTICE FOR ‘INVALID’ VALUES
The Washington County Appraisal District Board of Directors will meet Tuesday to discuss and act on receipt of a notice from the Texas Comptroller’s office regarding certain “invalid” values.
The appraisal district received a score of “invalid” on the 2021 property value study for Brenham and Burton ISD, due to the values being too low. The Comptroller is required to provide notice to the board, and the board is required to hold a public meeting on the matter.
According to the notice, some invalid school districts are eligible for the statutory grace period provided by Government Code 403.301(1), under which the Comptroller’s office certifies local value to the Texas Education Agency for school funding purposes for up to two years. If any school district is invalid for three straight years, the Comptroller’s office must conduct an additional review of the appraisal district under the Methods and Assistance Program (MAP).
In other action, the board will potentially adopt a resolution outlining the appraisal district allocation payment calendar. Texas Property Tax Code Section 6.06(e) requires taxing units to pay their portion of the appraisal district budget in quarterly payments, but the Washington County Appraisal District budget has always been paid by monthly payments beginning in September of the year in which the budget begins. A resolution is needed in order to outline the alternate method of payment.
Board members will then receive a series of reports.
The board will meet Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the appraisal district office at 1301 Niebuhr Street in Brenham.
