WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS PROCLAIM OCT. 2-8 AS NATIONAL 4-H WEEK

Washington County Commissioners issued a proclamation in recognition of the county’s youth who are involved in agriculture at their meeting today (Tuesday).
The court proclaimed next week, October 2-8, as National 4-H Week in Washington County.
Madison Moran, who is the Washington County 4-H Council Chair, District 11 4-H Council Chair and a member of the Texas 4-H Council, says next week is about educating the public about everything that the organization does.
According to the proclamation read by commissioners, there are 550,000 participants in Texas 4-H, ranging from 8-19 years old.
Also in court, commissioners authorized the hire of Angela Mlcak as the county’s new human resources director. Her start date will be October 10th.
In other business, commissioners:
- Rescinded a contract between the county and former human resources director Teresa Sazedj for human resources consultation services and approved a contract for the same services not to exceed $9,000. County Judge John Durrenberger explained that when the contract was amended at the court’s meeting September 6th, the item was approved as a new contract, rather than an extension of the existing one. The contract will run until the new human resources director begins work.
- Approved a contract from Ageint Security for jail security cameras at the Washington County Jail. The contract is a follow-up from when commissioners on September 13th agreed to use American Rescue Plan Act funds to pay for the cameras.
- Approved the purchase of an annual subscription for Unifi Identify, an Identify-as-a-Service (IDaaS) platform, providing additional IT security measures. The subscription is for $15,000 annually.
- Appointed Stephanie Jarvis to serve as vice chair of the Washington County Historical Commission.
- Approved the Statewide Automated Victim Services (SAVNS) maintenance grant contract between the county and the Office of the Attorney General (OAG). The court then voted to approve the participating entity services agreement for SAVNS.
- Approved replacement appointments for election judges and alternates.
- Changed the next commissioners court meeting from Tuesday, October 4th to Monday, October 3rd due to the county judge and commissioners attending a conference.
- Received a presentation from the Washington County Extension Service on the quarterly impact report, along with monthly reports from the emergency management coordinator, county and district clerks, justices of the peace, auditor, tax assessor-collector, treasurer, constables and elections department.
