BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO CONSIDER NO PARKING ZONE ON PRAIRIE LEA STREET

(City of Brenham)
A no parking zone may soon be created along Prairie Lea Street, next to the Blinn College Campus.
On Thursday, the Brenham City Council will consider a recommendation to establish no parking areas on both sides of Prairie Lea Street, beginning at College Avenue and extending south to West Fifth Street.
According to the agenda packet for the meeting, Blinn reached out to the city and TxDOT to ask about the change as it works on adopting a parking plan to better address on-campus parking.
City staff says the no parking areas will coordinate with Blinn’s parking plan and help keep students to specific parking lots. They will also help emergency vehicles maneuver better and add protection for pedestrians and students by not blocking roadways and improving visibility.
If the no parking zone is approved, city staff will put in no parking signs and Blinn will paint curbs as needed.
In other items Thursday, the council will act on a Chapter 380 agreement between the city and Brenham Market Square. In March, the city executed a memorandum of understanding indicating intent to support the residential and commercial mixed-use development, located between Market Street and Highway 290, by reimbursing qualified infrastructure costs.
