The concert, free and open to the public, will be held at 7 p.m. in Finke Recital Hall in the C.F. Schmidt Building at 800 College Avenue (map). The concert will also be streamed live on the Blinn College Music Department YouTube Channel.

It marks the first Blinn concert for Daniel Bircher, the college’s new Director of Choral Activities. Bircher took the position after longtime Director of Choral Music Paulo Gomes joined the faculty at Lone Star College-CyFair Campus.

Bircher has more than 20 years of teaching experience. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in music from Abilene Christian University and a Master of Music in voice and opera performance from Yale University.

The Blinn concert and chamber choirs will perform a variety of pieces, said Bircher, including “Bright Morning Stars,” “Nuit d’etoiles,” “O Magnum Mysterium,” “Te Deum,” “Soon Ah Will be Done,” “If Ye Love Me,” “Cry Me a River,” and “It’s a Grand Night for Singing.”

“The students here are a joy to work with,” he said.

The Blinn Music Department will also hold a Concerto and Aria Competition on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m. in Finke Recital Hall.

The competition features Blinn vocal and instrumental students, with the winner performing at a concert ensemble during the spring semester.

The concert will also be streamed live on the Blinn College Music Department YouTube Channel.

Blinn’s Music Department offers small classes, one-on-one attention, practical learning, and accessible faculty so that students are actively engaged in a superior learning environment. Students can pursue an Associate of Arts Degree in Music that provides a solid foundation in the creative and technical aspects of music, including music theory, history, composition, and performance.
