TWO SPECIAL EVENTS COMING TO THE BARNHILL CENTER IN 2023

Tickets are on sale starting today (Monday) for two unique events next year at The Barnhill Center in downtown Brenham.

Lyle Lovett and his Acoustic Group will perform at The Barnhill Center on February 17, 2023.

Lyle Lovett and his Acoustic Group will perform at the Historic Simon Theatre on Friday, February 17th at 7 p.m., while Hallelujah!  A Gospel Gathering will play on Sunday, August 13th at 1:30 p.m.

City of Brenham Tourism and Marketing Director Jennifer Eckermann says these two shows “are among the top requests we receive from patrons,” and are possible thanks to the generosity of The Barnhill Center’s loyal supporters.

Lyle Lovett is typically associated with country music, but he also weaves between jazz, western swing, folk, gospel and blues.  The singer, composer and actor has broadened the definition of American music in a career that spans 14 albums and 25 singles to date, and also includes four Grammy Awards, the Americana Music Association's inaugural Trailblazer Award, and being named the Texas State Musician.

Tickets start from $160-180, with a limited number of premium seats available at $500.

Performers planned for the August 13, 2023 gospel show at The Barnhill Center include The New Soul Invaders, The Mathis Trio, and Dr. Robert and Martha Haydon.

The gospel show on August 13th will have a large cast of regional artists performing classic favorites from church, renditions of inspirational pop songs, and down-home bluesy gospel music.  Featured are The New Soul Invaders of Industry, The Mathis Trio of Hempstead, and Dr. Robert and Martha Haydon of Brenham.  Music direction will come from Brenham’s Vicki Wehmeyer.  Prior to the show, a fried chicken lunch with all the fixings will be served at noon courtesy of Royers.

Hallelujah! A Gospel Gathering is made possible through donations from Joan Hasskarl Smith, Ann and Jerry Morgan, Lee and Mark Evans, and Lori and John Hasskarl. The show is underwritten by the Hasskarl Family.

Show tickets are $10-15 each.  The optional Sunday lunch tickets are $15 each, but seating is limited, so reservations should be made early.

Most additional artists for the gospel show have already been selected, but anyone who wants to audition can contact Wehmeyer at 979-525-9526 or Sharon Brass 979-451-1459 for details.

  1. Why are tickets so expensive! START at 160? I’ve enjoyed my of your talent your provided but I have to draw the line. This deserves an explanation. Were not Houston. Barnhill is great but this price increase is insulting.

    1. The Barnhill center holds maybe 350 at the most… at 175 a ticket thats only 61K… that probably just covers his cost for a show. Good talent dosent play for free.

    2. Thank you for asking about ticket prices because it’s a topic we don’t often have opportunities to clarify. Prices at The Barnhill Center (TBC) are simply derived from the cost to produce each show.

TBC is a non-profit operation, so tickets are priced as low as possible to cover expenses for talent, staff, technical crew, sound and light equipment, advertising, and providing for each band’s comfort per their contractual requirements.

To address your specific question about the Lyle Lovett show: he normally performs at venues with over 1,000 seats, so they can easily cover his extremely high production costs. TBC must pay the same expenses with only 319 seats to sell.

The chance to see an artist like Lyle Lovett in our small, intimate setting is a rare occurrence. Based on ticket sales, it’s apparent that many others know how very special this show will be.

TBC’s role has been to offer only the finest-quality entertainment, to benefit and enhance the community for locals and visitors alike. While we regret that some ticket prices are not within all budgets, we have little control over the expenses that dictate those prices.

We offer many other great shows in lower price ranges, so we hope you’ll enjoy!
