TxDOT TO HOLD PUBLIC MEETING JAN. 17 FOR HIGHWAY 290-FM 1155 INTERSECTION

Citizen input is invited during a TxDOT public hearing next month on proposed improvements to the intersection of Highway 290 and FM 1155 in Chappell Hill.

Concept 2 is a traditional overpass design with the
Highway 290 traffic bridged over the 1155 – Main
Street traffic.

An in-person meeting will be held on January 17th at the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church parish hall at 9175 FM 1371.  The meeting will start at 4:30 p.m. with an open house, followed by a live presentation at 6 p.m.

Attendees will be able to review copies of project materials, ask questions of TxDOT staff and consultants, and leave written comments about the project.

The intersection improvements are part of a larger project to widen Highway 290 to six lanes along a 12-mile stretch in Washington and Waller counties, from FM 1371 to Highway 6.

TxDOT plans to use an overpass design at the intersection, providing a Highway 290 bridge over FM 1155 with entrance and exit ramps for local access.  Pedestrian accommodations would be incorporated to allow pedestrians and bicyclists to cross under Highway 290 safely.  Right of way will be required for these improvements.

Also at the meeting, TxDOT will give updates on short-term and near-term solutions that are being developed alongside the larger improvements.  New signage and modified signal timing are among the options being implemented.  TxDOT is also looking to utilize a Restricted Crossing U-Turn (R-CUT) intersection, which would reduce conflict points by redirecting side street left-turning movements to offset U-turn locations.

Written comments regarding the project can be submitted by mail to the TxDOT Bryan District Office, Attn: Juan Quiroz, P.E., 2591 North Earl Rudder Freeway, Bryan, TX 77803.  Comments can also be emailed to Juan.Quiroz@txdot.gov.  All comments must be received on or before February 1, 2023 to be included in the public meeting documentation.

Public meeting information, including exhibits and presentations, will be available on the project webpage for viewing and download on the day of the meeting.  To access the webpage, visit www.txdot.gov and keyword search “US 290 at FM 1155” at the proper date and time.

  1. Please folks…they’re giving you a chance to voice your opinion. If you have thoughts or concerns voice them in a firm but professional way. That intersection along with the 290 clover leaf in Brenham are major sources of problems for our communities…let get these improvements going!!!
