BELLVILLE MEDICAL CENTER JOINS MIDCOAST HEALTH SYSTEM

The Bellville Medical Center is under new management.

As of the start of the new year, the hospital has joined MidCoast Health System and is now called MidCoast Medical Center – Bellville.

The decision for MidCoast to operate the hospital was formalized after months of negotiations.  The Bellville Hospital District Board and Bellville Medical Center Board both voted unanimously to approve the transition.

MidCoast Health System is based in El Campo.  In addition to Bellville, MidCoast runs hospitals in El Campo, Palacios and Llano.  It is also in the process of opening a hospital early this year in Trinity.

The Bellville Medical Center previously had a management agreement with ERH extending back to March 2019.  In October, the Bellville Hospital District Board announced the termination of the agreement.  Hospital District Board President Mike Koehn said in December that expenses were trending above revenue, and eight positions at the medical center had been eliminated.

Before ERH, the hospital was part of the St. Joseph’s Health System starting in 2013, after formerly being the Bellville General Hospital.  After becoming CHI St. Joseph in 2016, plans were announced in February 2019 to end their hospital operations.  The hospital then partnered a month later with ERH.
