BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO TAKE UP AGREEMENT FOR SMALL AREA PLAN AT BRENHAM FAMILY PARK
The Brenham City Council will meet today (Thursday) to potentially proceed with creating a Small Area Plan for the Brenham Family Park.
Councilmembers will act on a professional services agreement with Kendig Keast Collaborative for consulting services to produce the plan, which is a planning document covering the combined 600 acres around the area west of the Brenham Business Center, south of Highway 290, north of the Brenham State Supported Living Center and east of Highway 36.
The agenda packet for today’s meeting states that the city’s comprehensive plan includes a recommendation to complete a Small Area Plan for the 600 acres, given that the area is one of the few remaining large developable tracts in Brenham. The comprehensive plan also notes, however, that there are not clear land use designations for the acreage.
Additional consideration is needed to determine road alignments within the Small Area Plan to clarify the development potential and encourage compatible growth.
The agreement to create the Small Area Plan would not exceed $70,000. The plan is expected to be completed in seven months.
Also today, the council will review and vote on an amendment to the election services contract between the city and Washington County for the May 6th election. Due to the city, Brenham ISD and Blinn College all having a contested election, the county is requesting that there only be one single ballot for cost effectiveness and to reduce confusion. There will also be a presentation of the first quarter financial report for the 2022-23 Fiscal Year.
The council will then meet in executive session to discuss the development, operations, funding and possible acquisition of The Barnhill Center. Any action will be taken in open session. No action is expected on two other executive session items, those being council consultation with the city attorney regarding the Aviators Plus lawsuit and the Lake Somerville raw water intake structure.
The council will meet at 1 p.m. at Brenham City Hall.
