BRENHAM FD TO CELEBRATE 100TH BIRTHDAY OF ‘SAMANTHE’ FIRE ENGINE SATURDAY
The Brenham Fire Department is celebrating a milestone for one of its historic fire engines.
Tomorrow (Saturday) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the department will hold a 100th birthday celebration at the Brenham fire station for its 1923 American LaFrance Chemical Engine, Samanthe.
Brenham Fire Chief Roger Williams says families are invited to see some of the department’s history and get a firsthand experience with some department activities.
According to the fire department's website, Samanthe was purchased on April 2, 1923 from the manufacturer in Elmira, New York. A project to restore her to original condition began in 2004 and was completed in 2008, during the city’s sesquicentennial observation.
Williams says Brenham’s Samanthe is unique in that she is the only one left with her original engine.
Hamburgers, hot dogs, cake, cookies and Blue Bell Ice Cream will be served. The department’s mascot, “Sparky”, will be on hand as well.
