LADY PANTHERS CRUSH IOLA 20-5 TO REMAIN UNBEATEN IN DISTRICT

The Burton Lady Panther Softball Team continued to roll last (Tuesday) night with a 20-5 victory over the Iola Lady Bulldogs.

Reagan Roemer start the game with a single. After stealing both second and third, she came home to score on an RBI double by Paige Fritsch. Amaya Williams drew a walk. Aerynn Huntsman reached on an infield hit that scored Fritsch, and then Williams came in to score on an error. Allie Biggs singled home Huntsman. Jennifer Lopez hit a double, and when the leftfielder made an error on the play, Biggs came around and crossed the plate with another run. Lopez went to third on a wild pitch, and then scored on an RBI groundout by Kalli Pohl. Melanie Wood drew a walk, Roemer singled, and then they both moved up on a wild pitch. Fritsch singled home Wood to give Burton a 7-0 lead after a half inning.

The second inning started for the Panthers with a solo homer by Williams to center field. Bailey Glaesmann singled and Kelsie Hohlt was brought in to courtesy run for her. Huntsman followed with a double. Hohlt later scored on a wild pitch, and Huntsman stole home to make it 10-0 Burton.

Iola got on the board by scoring on a pair of Burton errors in the bottom of the second to cut the Panther lead to 10-1.

Burton went right back to work in the top of the third inning. Roemer walked, and later came home to score on an RBI groundout by Fritsch. Williams reached on a three-base error. Glaesmann walked and Hohlt ran for her again. On a wild pitch, Williams scored, and Hohlt went to second. Biggs then reach on an infield hit that brought Hohlt home. That put the Panthers up 13-1 after three hits.

In the top of the fifth, Fritsch singled, and scored on an RBI double by Williams. Glaesmann was hit by a pitch and Hohlt was brought in to run for her again. Williams came home on a passed ball. Huntsman singled, and then circled the bases on an error. Lopez walked, stole second, and scored on an RBI single by Pohl. Wood walked and Roemer doubled home Pohl. Fritsch singled in Wood, and Roemer scored on an error to put Burton up 20-1.

Iola scored four unearned runs in the bottom of the inning to close the gap to 20-5, but that would be as close as it would get.

Burton is now 13-3 overall, and 5-0 in district. They are off on Friday, and will next head to Mumford to start the second half of district next Tuesday, March 28.
