CUBETTES BEAT MAGNOLIA 6-4 TO MOVE INTO 2ND PLACE

Della Jasinski (Mark Whitehead)

The Brenham Cubette Softball team avenged an earlier loss and moved into sole possession of second place with a 6-4 over the Magnolia Lady Bulldogs last (Friday) night.

The game was scoreless until the top of the third inning. Avery Maurer led off with a double, and Halle Scheel reached on a bunt single. Kaylyn Rodriguez bunted into a fielder's choice that allowed Maurer to scored the game's first run. Annie Beckendorf reached on an error after the leftfielder dropped a fly ball, which allowed Scheel to score to put Brenham up 2-0.

Avery Maurer (Mark Whitehead)

The Cubettes would score again in the fifth inning on a solo homer by Maurer. Kaylyn Rodriguez reached on an error. Two batters later, Sarah Mabie singled, and Rodriguez would score on another Magnolia error. Brenham was then up 4-0.

Magnolia cut it to a one run game on a three run homer in the bottom of the fifth to make it 4-3.

The Cubettes would get some insurance runs in the top of the seventh. Maurer hit her second double of the game, and then scored on a double by Kaylyn Rodriguez. Rodriguez then scored later in the inning on a passed ball to put Brenham up 6-3.

Magnolia got one unearned run in the bottom of the seventh to make it 6-4, but that would be as close as they would come.

The Cubettes improve to 21-7 overall and 6-2 in district. They will next host A&M Consolidated on Tuesday night at 6:30pm at Alumni Field (6:05pm pregame on KWHI).
