Five Burton Elementary School students and Junior Beta Club members are preparing for national competition.

Everleigh Matthies, Liam Diehl, Paisley Goldberg, Brynlee Beckendorf and Scout Rhodes qualified for the National Beta Club’s elementary convention June 21-23 in Louisville, Kentucky.  The students, who were recognized at Tuesday’s Burton School Board meeting, earned a spot in nationals after competing in the state contest.

Matthies placed second in speech, while Diehl finished third in hand-drawn anime, Goldberg took fourth in jewelry, Beckendorf received fifth in drawing, and Rhodes was fifth in color photography.

Junior Beta Club instructor Diane Wied said the students competed virtually in the state contest due to the winter storm in late January and early February.

The Junior Beta Club program started in Burton this school year with about 20 members, adding another 25 this spring.
