SALES TAX REBATES UP IN MAY ACROSS WASHINGTON CO.

  

All Washington County entities reported an increase in sales and tax distributions for the month of May, the third consecutive month of growth.

The county’s rebate in May was $469,487, up 11.69 percent from the $420,330 collected in May 2022.  Through the year so far, the county has received $2,001,449, an increase of 14.04 percent from its total of $1,754,955 through this time last year.

Brenham took in $884,230 this month, 3.08 percent more than the $857,777 it received last May.  To this point in 2023, the city’s allocations are up 5.22 percent from a year ago, at $3,922,511 compared to $3,727,702.

Burton’s May rebate came out to $11,161, an 18.01 percent bump up from its $9,457 payout in May of last year.  The city’s receipts so far this year amount to $48,799, up 18.49 percent from $41,182 received through the first five months of 2022. 

Comptroller Glenn Hegar reported that, for the month of May, the state paid out $1.2 billion in local sales tax allocations, up 4.3 percent from last May and up 8.5 percent for the year to date.
