WASHINGTON COUNTY JUNETEENTH EVENTS START THIS WEEKEND

The Washington County Juneteenth Association has a couple of big events coming up this weekend as they prepare for the annual celebration.

The coronation ceremony is going to be held at the Fireman’s Training Center on Saturday from 11am-1pm. They will be announcing the Senior King and Queen, as well as the Junior King and Queen.

Later that evening, the Juneteenth Association is holding their annual gala, which is also at the Fireman’s Training Center beginning at 6:30pm.

The theme for the Gala is “A Night at the Oscars.” Tickets are $25 each, and they also have tables available for $250.

The festivities continue on Sunday, June 11, with the Opening Musical at 3pm at the New Life Church of God at 1990 FM 389.  They are looking for choirs, groups, soloists, and praise dancers to perform.  For more information, contact Brandon Cooper at 215-834-8550.

Then, on Tuesday, June 13, the Juneteenth Association is hosting Family Day at the Park.  The event will be held at Jackson Street Park beginning at 5pm.  They are going to have Kid’s Day, Bingo, and a Wellness Walk.

That will be followed by the Jubilee Kickoff on Friday, June 16, from 6-10pm at Fireman’s Park. The theme for the Kickoff is “Coolin’ in the Park” and it will feature a performance by the Brown Sugar Band.  There is also a Fish Fry with tickets being sold for $15 each.

That will lead into Saturday, June 17, with the opening ceremonies on the Washington County Courthouse Square at 9:30am, and then the Juneteenth Parade through Downtown Brenham at 10:30am.  The parade will be broadcast live right here on KWHI.

The celebration continues after the parade at Fireman’s Park.
