PRAIRIE VIEW POLICE INVESTIGATING FATAL SHOOTING OF COLLEGE STUDENT
Prairie View Police are investigating the early morning shooting death of a 21-year-old female college student.
Police say one person is dead and three others were wounded during a domestic dispute that erupted in gunfire at the Gates of Prairie View apartment complex at 625 Elm Street around 5:30am Thursday.
Officers report that an initial dispute started at another location, where a woman was trying to escape from an abusive boyfriend.
She came to the apartments to turn to the victim, who was a friend of hers, for help, but the boyfriend followed her.
After a physical confrontation, the victim got her boyfriend, who was an off-duty security guard. The boyfriends ended up arguing, and that led to shots being fired.
When police arrived, the victim was found dead at the scene, and her boyfriend was wounded.
The couple that brought the initial dispute to her doorstep fled the scene when officers arrived.
They were later detained by law enforcement at another location. The victim’s boyfriend and the other couple all suffered gunshot wounds and were transported to the hospital. All three are expected to survive.
Prairie View Police are continuing their investigation with assistance from the Waller County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Rangers.
Police say right now is unclear who started the shooting, and who fired the fatal shot.
The deceased woman was about to enter her senior year at Prairie View A&M.
The University released a statement extending their deepest sympathies to the family of the student that was killed. They also said that counseling services will be made available to any student that needed them.
