OFFICER IDENTIFIED IN WEEKEND FATAL SHOOTING
The Caldwell Police Department has released the name of the officer that was injured this past Saturday during an exchange of gunfire with a suspect.
Caldwell Police were called out in the early morning hours to several vehicle burglaries in the city.
Police located two suspects, who fled on foot. An officer pursued one of the suspects on foot, and a physical struggle ensued.
According to Caldwell Police Chief Charles Barnes, the officer was shot by the suspect, at which time the officer returned fire, fatally wounding the suspect.
The officer was transported by Burleson St. Joseph EMS to an area hospital for treatment.
Barnes sent out a press released this (Tuesday) afternoon saying that the officer involved in the shooting is Officer Coleman Decker.
Decker has been a member of the Caldwell Police Department for the last four years.
Barnes said that Decker was released from the hospital on Sunday and is currently recovering at home.
Because of it being an officer involved shooting, the case is being investigated by the Texas Rangers.
The identity of the deceased suspect has not yet been released by authorities.
