ST. PETER’S EPISCOPAL CHURCH CELEBRATING 175TH ANNIVERSARY

St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Brenham is celebrating their 175th Anniversary this week.

St. Peter’s first met together as a congregation on May 2, 1848.  At that time, they served the newly established Brenham community as the fourth Episcopal Church in Texas.

The festivities begin on Thursday at the church, which is located at 2310 Airline Drive, with a Washington County Chamber of Commerce Anniversary Ribbon Cutting at 4:30pm.

That will be followed by historical exhibits and self-guided tours at 5pm.  Historical exhibits included an 1852 church bell, original cornerstones from previous buildings in 1881 and 1901, an original pulpit and an eagle lectern that were built in the 1880’s, and other artifacts from the church’s past 175 years.

Then, there is a Eucharist service lead by the Bishop of Texas, the Right Reverend C. Andrew Doyle at 6pm. A reception will follow with food, wine, and desserts in the Parish Hall.

On Friday, there will be a Historic 1789 Prayer Service at 12 noon.

On Saturday, the church is going to do a community service project at Hohlt Park from 8am-12 noon. Then, they are holding a Columbarium Requiem at 7:30pm.

On Sunday, they will have a historical lecture about Saint Peter at 9:15am, followed by a Holy Eucharist service at 10:30am, and a Parish picnic will follow.
