DIME BOX UNABLE TO FIELD FOOTBALL TEAM FOR 2023 SEASON

Dime Box ISD Athletic Director Kasey Kubena said that the Longhorns will not be fielding a team for the 2023 season.

Kubena told the Giddings Times that due to a lack of interest, there were not enough players at the High School or Junior High levels.

Last year, summer workouts for football began, but too many players quit before the first game, so they had to forfeit all their scheduled games.

According to the Times, the last time Dime Box was able to play a full football season was in 2020.  They finished with a 5-3 record.

Kubena hopes to revive interest in football for the 2024 season. However, he fears that if no one comes forward, the program will be ended.

The Dime Box baseball program is also having a similar issue of finding enough players to field a team.

Kubena did say, however, that they will have volleyball, cross country, basketball, tennis, and golf teams for the upcoming school year.
