Earlier this month, Robert Mabrey Jr. was named the winner of PlanNorth Architectural Company’s annual Copper Star Award, which recognizes people whose service makes a lasting impact and whose leadership, work ethic and integrity inspire others.
As part of the honor, Mabrey was given the opportunity to direct a $1,000 community donation underwritten by PlanNorth to a local nonprofit of his choice. He has chosen to dedicate his donation to Faith Mission’s SMART-CARE Kids Program.
Mabrey is a retired military veteran, independent business owner and community servant who gives his time to several local organizations like Faith Mission, the Washington County Ministerial Association, Washington County Jail Ministry, Camptown Cemetery and local nursing home ministries.
SMART-CARE offers a six-week academic enrichment course for children ages 5–12 who are in Brenham ISD. The program builds reading skills and teaches moral principles through hands-on learning and educational field trips. Children also meet community leaders, take part in service and develop basic life skills.
Mabrey’s donation will support SMART-CARE’s work to help local children learn, connect with their community, and take part in experiences that might otherwise be out of reach.
