MINOR GIRLS SOFTBALL STATE LITTLE LEAGUE TOURNAMENT IN EL CAMPO
HALLETTSVILLE 11 WASHINGTON COUNTY 8
Washington County got off to a good start with two runs in the top of the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead. Kori Boeker drew a one-out walk, advanced to third on two wild pitches, and then scored on an RBI single by Charley Eberly. Audrey Dismukes walked. Washington County then pulled off a double steal with Eberly scoring to make it 2-0.
Hallettsville scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-2 lead, and then three runs in the bottom of the second to jump out to a 6-2 lead.
Washington County got a couple of the runs back in the top of the third. Caroline Roznovsky drew a walk to lead off the inning, and came around to score when Brylie Mund reached on an error. Mund then scored on an RBI single by Lillie Collier to cut Hallettsville's lead to 6-4.
However, Hallettsville took advantage of some Washington County fielding errors to add three more runs in the third inning to increase their lead to 9-4.
There was a call that caused some controversy in the top of the fourth inning. Molly Felder was batting with the bases loaded. On one of the pitches, it was initially ruled a swing and miss. The ball got past the catcher and went to the backstop allowing Olivia Fuchs to come home and score. The Hallettsville catcher then overthrew the pitcher who was covering home plate, which allowed Kinsley Wallace to score seemingly making it 9-6. Hallettsville's coach claimed it was foul ball, and after a discussion by the four umpires, the call was overturned, the runs were taken off the scoreboard, and the runners had to return to their respective bases (Fuchs to third, Wallace to second). Washington County failed to score, and it remained a 9-4 game.
In the bottom of the fourth, Hallettsville added two more runs to make it 11-4.
Washington County trimmed the lead down with four runs in the top of the fifth. Roznovsky and Mund both walked. Collier reached on an error, which allowed them both to score to make it 11-6. Eberly singled home Collier to make it 11-7. Dismukes then singled home Eberly to cut the lead to 11-8. That would be as close as they would come.
Hallettsville went on to win the game and the State Championship.
