GRIMES COUNTY REPEAT OFFENDER GETS 15 YEARS IN PRISON

Jonathan Jeffery
(Grimes County Jail)

A Grimes County man with a lengthy criminal history will be spending the next 15 years in prison.

50-year-old Jonathan Jeffrey was arrested on August 18, 2021 by the Navasota Police Department when they responded to a disturbance at 520 Laredo Street.

According to the Grimes County District Attorney’s Office, officers Ethan Tyler and Logan Peck found Jeffery in a parking lot smoking PCP.  They arrested him for Possession of a Controlled Substance.

This past Tuesday, a jury panel was summoned for a trial, but Jeffery plead guilty before selection, and instead requested a jury to assess his punishment.

During the punishment trial, prosecutors presented Jeffery’s extensive criminal history, which dates back to 1991.

It includes additional Possession of a Controlled Substance cases, DWI, multiple Disorderly Conduct charges, Fleeing Police, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.

Jurors also heard testimony that Jeffery had a long history of PCP use, and had on multiple occasions been dealt with by law enforcement in public while both high and naked.

In addition to that, prosecutors presented evidence to the jury that two days prior to the trial, Jeffery was arrested again for public intoxication after he caused another disturbance while both high and naked.

Jeffrey plead true to a prior felony conviction for Forgery, which made his punishment range from 2 to 20 years in prison.

After deliberating, the jury sentenced him to 15 years of incarceration on Thursday.
