BURTON SCHOOL BOARD VOTES TO CHANGE SITE WORK CONTRACTORS FOR BOND PROJECT
Burton ISD is making a switch in contractors for the school bond project.
The Burton School Board unanimously voted on Monday to release Circle H Dirt Work and Excavation from their contract for the building project and to now contract with Champion Site Prep. The action came after an executive session.
Superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy did not elaborate on the board’s reasoning for its decision, but when asked if any costs would change for the district as a result, she said, “Any cost adjustments are currently being discussed and considered as this transition process moves forward.”
In December, the board accepted a rebid of site work from Circle H for $4.015 million.
It is not known at this time what the transition might mean for the overall project timeline.
Monday’s meeting included a fresh update on where the project stands. DSA Construction Management’s report said the field has passed all testing and re-testing, and the focus is now on completing testing for the storm drainage.
According to the report, DSA held a meeting with Hellas Construction after the company raised concerns that the track and field had dried too much. The meeting went over a plan to remoisten the field without jeopardizing the integrity of the subsoil.
Tucker Construction has toured the site and gotten on schedule to begin the flat work around the track and field for the bleachers and sidewalks. A meeting was also held with Sturdi Steel to discuss dates for delivery, concrete pouring and the expected completion of the bleachers.
