State Representative John Raney announced on Wednesday that he will not seek another term in 2024.

Raney has served in House District 14, which represents a large part of the Bryan-College Station area, for seven terms after first being elected in 2011.

Raney said in a press release that he wishes to spend more time with his family.  He said he will continue to be of service through the remainder of his current term and is grateful for the trust voters placed in him.

In his announcement, Raney pointed to career accomplishments such as securing funding for Texas A&M University, advancing veteran job transition and student veteran protections, and removing barriers to access workforce development.

Raney received notoriety locally in 2015 when he proposed legislation that would have required Blinn College to allocate funds based upon campus contact hours, a measure that would have kept most funding on the Bryan Campus due to its larger student population.  The bill did not pass the Texas House.
