BRENHAM CUBS TO OPEN SEASON TONIGHT (FRIDAY) VS. OAK RIDGE
For the second year in a row, the Brenham Cubs and the Oak Ridge War Eagles will open the regular season against one another. Oak Ridge won last year's meeting 23-13 in Conroe.
After a fierce competition, junior Jordan Harvey won the starting QB battle for Brenham. Head Coach Danny Youngs describes him as a dual threat that can both run and throw.
Senior Jaylon Ward and Sophomore Cartelle Brown will pace the Cub running attack.
The defense will be lead by returning starters DT Miguel Rodriguez, LB Cade Moore, and S Jabreon Moore. Last season, Cade led the team with 109 tackles, plus he also had six sacks.
Last year, the War Eagles finished 7-4, and were third place in their district with a 6-2 record. They finished behind only New Caney (11-1, 8-0) and the Woodlands (10-3, 7-1).
Their defense is lead by DL Joseph Jonah-Ajonye and LB Justin Williams, who have both commit to the National Champion Georgia Bulldogs.
Their offense is lead by RB Frankie Arthur, who has committed to Central Florida. Last season, he ran for 1,445 yards and 18 touchdowns.
Coach Youngs discussed what it is going to take to get a week one victory for the Cubs.
Due to the heat, the start time was pushed back to 8pm at Cub Stadium in Brenham. KWHI will have live coverage beginning with the pregame at 7:30pm on 1280AM, 101.7FM, KWHI.com, and the KWHI app.
