HIGH SPEED CHASE LEADS TO ARREST OF DRUG SUSPECT

Lamar Martin (Fayette County Jail)

A Hallettsville man was arrested earlier today (Wednesday) after being chased through two counties by law enforcement.

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that Sgt. Randy Thumann attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a 2022 Porsche SUV on I-10 near the 677 Mile Marker for a traffic infraction around 11:15am.

Thumann made contact with the driver, 34-year-old Lamar Dareon Martin of Hallettsville, who then drove off from the scene. A pursuit was initiated and continued onto several Fayette County roads and into the city limits of Schulenburg.

Schulenburg Police Officer Byron Powe joined in the pursuit, which then went south on FM 957, into Lavaca County, and ultimately into Hallettsville.

The Lavaca County Sheriff’s Office deployed spikes in the community of Breslau. Martin’s vehicle later wrecked into a fire hydrant in the Hallettsville city limits on the south side of town.

Martin attempted to flee the scene on foot, but was successfully taken into custody by Sgt. Thumann.

Sheriff Korenek said that approximately 11 kilos of methamphetamine was located in Schulenburg that had been allegedly dumped by Martin during the pursuit.

They also seized over $3,000 in U.S. currency from the suspect and the vehicle.

Martin was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Evading Arrest.

Sheriff Korenek thanked the Schulenburg Police Department, the Lavaca County Sheriff’s Office, and the Hallettsville Police Department for their assistance.
