GERMANIA INSURANCE UNDERGOES WORKFORCE REDUCTION
Germania Insurance has announced a companywide workforce reduction of 7 percent.
The company, which is headquartered in Brenham, said in a press release on Thursday that the decision was due to “challenges resulting from extreme weather volatility, inflation, the rising cost of claims, and the increased reinsurance costs experienced throughout the insurance industry.”
According to the release, the workforce reduction was across all categories and at all levels. All affected personnel were notified directly and provided severance packages based on salary, position and years of service.
When asked how many Brenham employees were impacted as a result of the decision, a spokesperson for Germania said 35 team members were affected.
Germania President and CEO Brandon Keller said while extensive actions have been taken to improve Germania’s financial position, the actions will take time to manifest. He said the workforce reduction is “part of our ongoing goal to enhance our operational efficiency and reduce overall expenses to strengthen Germania long term.”
Keller said, “We value the contributions of our team members and deeply regret the need for this action.”
Have the remote workers come BACK to the office as well, not just once a week. Some of them don’t even come back once a week! They are seen around town in grocery stores when they should be WORKING. The cost will go up with more people in the office, sure. But so would PRODUCTIVITY…
Okay, just a few things…
1. Are we reading the same thing? I didn’t see where it mentioned that productivity was the issue.
2. It’s 2023. Many companies provide vacation days, sick time, and even PERSONAL time…I know, shocker. Did you ask the individual if they were on company time or are you just assuming they were cheating the system? You know what they say about people that assume. You, apparently, were at the grocery store at the same time and also posting this ridiculous comment on a Monday morning, shouldn’t you be WORKING?
3. It’s always best to stay in your lane. People lost their jobs.
How would you know if they should be at work. Maybe they were off that day lol
According to the release, the workforce reduction was across all categories and at all levels.
What percentage of the executive leadership team was impacted? Just wondering.
Let’s see rates going up employment going down equals worse customer service! Sad day for those folks getting laid off. When and where do we draw the line and say enough? I wager the CEO didn’t lose a nickel in pay and benefits. Glad I don’t have that insurance.
They seem to be very well represented in the ALCS. That can’t be too cheap. Keep it simple!!
I’ve been saying that for years. They should spend that money supporting local Little League teams across the state. That would foster way more goodwill among Texans than blowing it on NASCAR and MLB sponsorships. What a foolish waste of money that anyone with common sense should recognize.
This is a for profit organization. Their marketing strategy likely is to target eye balls, not your perception of goodwill. I’m sure their marketing team has done their homework on the expected returns of this strategy and based their decisions off their findings. Consider the type and number of people that watch NASCAR and MLB vs little league baseball.
Germania you fail to mention the exact reason for the reduction of employees & that is due to the millions of dollars spent on the ongoing remodeling of the building & the removal of many trees on the property & the cost of landscaping afterwards. The remodeling started in 2020 with the 3rd floor, then the 2nd floor & the ongoing with the 1st floor.
All so unnecessary due to Covid, only a handful of employees work in the office as the others are remote. Your excuses along with the huge increase in my insurance premiums make me want to take my business elsewhere. I am a retired Germania employee & my heart goes out to those of you who have lost your jobs which is not your fault, it is the fault of higher ups irresponsible decisions who all still have their jobs. My question is how do you sleep at night?
