TXDOT HOLDING PUBLIC HEARING AT BLINN

The Texas Department of Transportation invites the public to give feedback at an open house regarding plans to add raised medians along South Day Street from West Stone Street to Highway 290.

An open house is being held tomorrow from 4:30-6:30pm at the Blinn College Student Center on the Brenham campus.

The proposed project along South Day Street would replace the existing center turn lane with raised medians and dedicated left-turn lanes to selected locations.

TxDOT says the raised median design would reduce vehicle conflicts between left-turning traffic and head-on traffic, as well as crossing traffic from adjacent properties and side streets. U-turns would also be incorporated to allow turnaround movements.

The TxDOT-Bryan District Office is developing the design and conducting environment studies.  Construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2025.

TxDOT says additional right-of-way would be needed for the changes, but it does not anticipate any residential or non-residential properties would be displaced.

Currently, only one undisclosed location along the project would require right-of-way acquisition.

Tomorrow’s (Thursday’s) public meeting will allow attendees to review project displays and meet with TxDOT staff.

The information presented at the meeting is also going to be online at www.txdot.gov. The keyword search is “BS 36J Raised Medians.”

Project comments must be received by Monday, December 4th.

  1. They have to waste money???? I don’t see a need in this. Go do something more constructive like fix 332 near Wesley. Or fix oilfield road or many others. Don’t fix something that’s not broken

  2. A traffic light at the intersection of FM 2934 and 577 near the high school would money better spent. The high school has been there since the spring of ’97 and there still has not been any improvements to this intersection. Currently the the school resource officer performs traffic control until a certain point in time. The Brenham Elementary School entrance at 577 just got a new traffic light so no manual traffic control is no longer needed, but has been around for much fewer years. Why not install a system at the said location as well?

  3. They want our imput but they won’t listen. They’ve already made up their minds. Read the article. They’ve already set the construction date. This is stupid for Brenham. It isn’t needed. Why don’t they fix problems that are problems instead of creating more problems

    1. I have to think there is a need for this. Just drive by HEB around a major holiday and notice the police directing traffic.

      1. HEB pays for that traffic control, as a courtesy, due to the large amount of traffic on those few days of those major holidays. Any other time everyone knows how to get in and out of HEB without help. Raised medians would be better suited to the Wal-Mart side of the road. I would LOVE to see the crash reports that are driving this change they say is ‘so needed’.

    2. Just a way to get more cement on the ground its only progress for the contractors that our tax dollars are constantly feeding and TXDOT is happy to oblige. They don’t listen to us. If is not broken leave it alone. Fix some of these FM roads the oilfield trucks have damaged if you want to do something. Make some passing lanes on HWY 105 so you don’t get stuck behind an RV going 45MPH that has a parade behind them all the way to Navasota.
