BRENHAM ISD ANNOUNCES INCREASED SAFETY MEASURES FOR ATHLETIC EVENTS
In the aftermath of the incident that occurred during the boys’ varsity basketball game this past Friday, Brenham ISD has announced that they are taking decisive steps to enhance safety and prevent similar occurrences in the future.
The altercation occurred late in the fourth quarter when a Rudder player committed a flagrant technical foul on a Brenham player, which led to the benches emptying and fans leaving the stands and coming on to the court.
Following a comprehensive “After Incident” meeting held this (Wednesday) morning, Brenham ISD has outlined the following measures.
- Increased Security Presence: Effective immediately, the number of administrators on duty will be expanded to form a team. This team will work in conjunction with an increased police presence at all home basketball games.
- Enhanced Venue Configuration: In an effort to create a secure environment, there will no longer be seating available in the first few rows. A physical barrier will implemented to separate the audience seating from the court.
- Restrictions on Access to the Court: For the safety of all participants, parents, and fans will no longer be allowed on the court at any time. This restriction is aligned with safety practices in other sports where access to playing field is restricted.
- Pre-Game Announcements: Prior to each game, announcements will be made emphasizing sportsmanship and setting clear expectations for behavior. A zero-tolerance policy will be enforced for any disruptive, abusive, or derogatory behavior. Individuals displaying such behavior will be immediately ejected from the game.
In addition to the local efforts, the UIL District Executive Committee has reviewed the incident details and voted in favor of granting Brenham the win in the suspended game.
This all done with tax dollars that are supposed to be for education and sports needs to end in schools. This is not education we have no reason other than a now harmful tradition to keep it going, It became harmful when children and adults never learned and will not learn to behave and you have to babysit them. The idea that schools could teach values like respect and dignity is a joke.
