EIGHT CALLS FOR BRENHAM FIRE DEPARTMENT SUNDAY

Sunday was busy for the Brenham Fire Department, responding to eight calls throughout the day.

Shortly after 7:30 a.m., the department was dispatched to a gas spill at the Exxon station at 2145 Highway 290 West.  Units found about 10 gallons of gas on the ground.  They cleaned up the spilled fuel before clearing the call.

Just after 10:30 a.m., firefighters received a report of a gas odor in the 2600 block of Brookbend Drive.  They arrived along with the City of Brenham Gas Department to check the area for a leak or smell.  After investigation, the fire department returned to service.

Around 11:15 a.m., units were called out for a fire alarm in the 400 block of West Blue Bell Road, but were cancelled due to proper code being given.

Shortly before 8:15 p.m., the department was sent out to FM 389 and Farmers Road for a crash with no entrapment.  BFD members made location to find a vehicle accident with no fluids leaking.  They stayed on scene for traffic control and to help with lighting.  They were released from the scene by law enforcement and Bluebonnet Electric.

Just before 9:15 p.m., units were requested to unlock an apartment door at Brenham Trails, 2502 South Market Street, but were cancelled by law enforcement before making location.

Moments later, they were notified of a fire alarm at Brenham National Bank, 2211 South Day Street.  Firefighters arrived and found the alarm sounding.  After making entry and checking the alarm panel and building, nothing was found that would have set the alarm system off, so it was reset with no issues.

Just past 10 p.m., the department was dispatched to a home in the 2100 block of Beazley Street for a fire investigation.  Units met with the homeowner and advised that a neighbor had called, saying they saw smoke coming from the top of the house.  The department found that the steam from the boiler room at the hospital nearby made it look like smoke.  Firefighters cleared the call and returned to service.

Around 11:30 p.m., BFD members were sent out to a fire alarm at RR Donnelley, 1903 FM 389.  They arrived to find the alarm system sounding.  After a keyholder made location, units checked the building and found everything to be ok.  They reset the alarm system and let the keyholder know what was showing on the alarm panel before returning to the station.
