LOCAL PHYSICIAN DISCUSSES ‘BUSY’ SEASON OF WINTER SICKNESSES

This winter has been a rough one in terms of illness, with many people coming down with some form of sickness.

Local physician and Washington County Health Authority Dr. William Loesch says these past few months have been fairly busy in terms of dealing with the flu, COVID and RSV.

Local schools have felt the effects, as Brenham and Burton ISDs both report students having issues.  Brenham ISD Lead Nurse Deborah Saunders says they have seen a lot of flu and strep throat, along with stomach viruses in the elementary schools.  Burton ISD Nurse Anna Preuss says they also have seen some stomach bugs and some respiratory illnesses, although not too much in the way of the flu.

Dr. Loesch says it can sometimes be a clinical game in trying to determine what sickness a person has, and recommends talking to a physician to see what the problem is and what type of treatment may be needed.

Dr. Loesch is optimistic that the spreading of illness will calm down once the back-and-forth temperatures stop.

Aside from visiting with a doctor, Dr. Loesch encourages practicing general sanitation, considering vaccinations and taking universal precautions.
