The hearing will run from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at Brenham Elementary School, 1000 West Blue Bell Road.

Visitors will be able to look at project displays and ask questions of TxDOT staff in an open house format.  A formal presentation will begin at 5:30 p.m.

The proposed project would construct a new interchange at the intersection of Highway 290 and Highway 36 that provides continuous traffic flow via two lanes in each direction along Highway 290, with direct connectivity to Highway 36.  The project limits extend from Prairie Lea Street to Windy Acres Road for a length of approximately 3.25 miles.

TxDOT plans to convert the existing two-way frontage roads into one-ways and provide access to local roads from Highway 290 via upgraded entrance and exit ramps.  The existing cloverleaf ramps will be removed.  Proposed improvements also include reconstruction of the Old Mill Creek and Business 290 (Main Street) bridges and construction of a shared use path for pedestrians and bicyclists along the project corridor.  Construction is planned to start in 2027.

Pending final design considerations, the project would require approximately 75 acres of right-of-way and potentially displace 11 residences and 20 non-residential structures.  Relocation assistance is available for displaced persons and businesses by contacting TxDOT’s Right-of-Way Project Manager at 979-218-2870.

The project would also acquire 0.12 acres from Rose Bowl Lanes, located at 2905 Highway 290 West.  TxDOT anticipates making a de minimis determination – a finding of no adverse effect or no historic properties affected – under Section 4(f) of the Department of Transportation Act of 1966.

Online participation will be available at www.txdot.gov with the keyword search “US 290 at SH 36”.  Meeting materials and maps will be posted online, and there will be opportunities for comment.  Public comments can also be submitted via email or regular mail (TxDOT Bryan District Office Attn: US 290/SH 36 Interchange 2591 North Earl Rudder Freeway Bryan, TX 77803).  Comments must be received by Monday, February 5th.
